There are plenty of places online where you can buy images for your website or blog. The problem is that with many images starting at £1.00, if you’re adding a lot of new content this can become quite expensive over time.
Because properly licenced ‘stock’ images are expensive, a lot of people simply search Google when they find something an image they like, they just cut and paste it into their website or blog – this this a bad move.
Images are subject to copyright so if you use an image on your website that you don’t have permission to use, you could end up with the copyright holder seeking damages from you for use of their image. There have been instances where copyright holders have sued website or blog owners for thousands of pounds so it really isn’t worth the risk.
However, there is a quick and easy way to find thousands of images which you can use for free.
Finding ‘Free to use’ Images With Google
Firstly, head over to Google and enter the subject of the image you’re searching for. In our example, we’re looking for a picture of a Red Coat.
Then follow these simple steps:
- Click on the ‘Images’ tab so that Google display a list of images rather than web pages.
- Next, click on the little cog icon (settings) on the right of the page, then click on ‘Advanced Search’.
- Now scroll to the bottom of the options page until you get to the ‘Useage rights’.
- Choose the option that best suits your needs and then click the Blue ‘Advanced Search’ button.
You now have a list of images that you can legally use on your website or blog.
