Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you do a search in Google or how they decide on which results to show you? Well, Google have now produced a short video which gives a little more insight into how their search system works.
Presented by Matt Cutts, Head of Google’s Webspam Team, the video doesn’t exactly tell you how to get a better rank but it does answer a lot of common questions that we’re asked about Google’s search algorithm. The most important fact mentioned by Cutts is that Google uses over 200 different parameters to ‘grade’ it’s results.
Obviously most of these parameters are unknown to anyone outside of Google but Cutts does as least mention the key factors that are the foundation of SEO, such as the meta page title, URL, synonyms and keyword density.
If you’re in business, you might want to start asking yourself if the pages in your website are worthy of Google selection for it’s index when your potential customers are searching. It’s clear from this video that Google want’s to deliver the best results it can for any given search so you need to ensure your website pages provide exactly what Google wants.
